History

J Vasc Bras. was founded in 2002, when Dr. Marcio Meirelles was President of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (Sociedade Brasileira de Angiologia e de Cirurgia Vascular – SBACV). The first editor was Dr. Telmo Bonamigo, who was in charge of implementation. From then on, the Journal has been the SBACV’s main channel for scientific publication. Since 2005, the Editor-in-Chief has been Dr. Winston Bonetti Yoshida, Full Professor of Vascular Surgery at the School of Medicine of Botucatu, Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). Over time, J Vasc Bras. has grown in submissions and impact factor, including an increasing number of international submissions. The Journal was accepted for indexing in SciELO in 2004 and in PubMed Central® in 2017, which are some of the most prestigious international repositories.

Prior to the founding of J Vasc Bras., the SBACV published two journals. Revista Cardiovascular was edited by Dr. Mario Degni, one of the founders of the SBACV, then called Brazilian Society of Angiology. The journal published 60 issues from 1965 to 1979, but it was not indexed. Subsequently, Drs. Adib Bouabci, Bonno Van Bellen, and Antonio Simi created Cirurgia Vascular e Angiologia, a private journal published by the SBACV from 1985 to 2001. It was indexed in LILACS and published 68 quarterly issues.

Until 2019, J Vasc Bras. was a quarterly journal available in print format. As of issue 18, following a worldwide trend, the Journal adopted an online-only, continuous article publication model. In 2017, it shifted from the CC-BY-NC Creative Commons copyright license to the CC-BY license. The Journal’s website (https://www.jvascbras.org/) was redesigned in 2017, with the inclusion of several links and access to publication guidelines and a tutorial for article submission.

All articles in J Vasc Bras. include an English version. Translation and proofreading services are provided by Scientific Linguagem (https://www.scientific.com.br/). Articles can be accessed and downloaded from the Journal’s website, the application hosted on the SBACV website, the SciELO website, and PubMed Central®. News and updated reports are posted on the Journal’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jvascbras).
