Abstract
Intermittent claudication (IC) limits adherence to exercise of patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). It is therefore necessary to identify tools that could possibly increase their adherence to exercise. The objective of this protocol is to evaluate the acute effects of music on walking distance and time in individuals with PAD during a treadmill stress test, comparing muscle oxygenation, hemodynamic response, perceived exertion, and time to IC onset between tests with and without music. This is a quasi-experimental clinical trial protocol recruiting patients aged ≥ 18 years with PAD and IC. Tests will be performed in random order, with Near-Infrared Spectroscopy monitoring, and with patients wearing headphones. Only one test will involve a musical stimulus from a pre-defined playlist. The researcher responsible for conducting the test will be blinded to the presence of music. Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC): RBR-25rft3r
